Our client, a professional and reputable Industrial Cleaning and Waste Management Company, is seeking to hire a highly a HSE Officer in their Port Harcourt base to ensure that day-to-day activities are performed in a safe manner. 
The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring safety protocols to ensure a zero-accident environment. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker who can identify hazards before they manifest and ensure our operations remain in 100% compliance with local and international safety standards.
Knowledge Requirement:

  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and 45001 OHSAS 
  • Basic Fire fighting
  • JHA/Risk Assessment

Duties and Responsibilities1. Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment (HIRA)
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential physical, chemical, and biological hazards.
  • Develop and maintain Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and Risk Registers for all technical
  • projects, including heavy equipment fabrication and chemical handling.
  • Implement corrective and preventive actions based on incident reports and near-miss observations.
2. Environmental & Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure the organization meets all statutory requirements (e.g., NESREA, NUPRC, or OSHA standards).
  • Manage the procurement, distribution, and enforcement of Personal Protective
  • Equipment (PPE) across all operational sites.
3. Training & Safety Culture
  • Facilitate daily \"Toolbox Talks\" and lead monthly safety induction programs for new employees and third-party contractors.
  • Organize specialized training sessions on fire safety, first aid, and emergency response procedures.
  • Promote a \"Behavior-Based Safety\" (BBS) culture where every employee takes ownership of workplace hazards.
4. Emergency Response & Reporting
  • Serve as the lead coordinator during emergency drills, evacuations, or workplace incidents.
  • Lead incident investigations to determine root causes and prepare detailed reports for
  • Management and the Board of Directors.
  • Maintain comprehensive HSE documentation, including Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and accident statistics.

Qualification Requirement
  • Academic Qualification: Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Safety, Environmental Science,
  • Engineering or any Science related discipline. Master’s degree in related discipline is an added advantage
  • 5 years of hands-on experience in the waste management or oil and gas environment.
  • Membership in ISPON (Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria) is highly preferred.
  • Professional Qualification: Basic Fire Aid training, ISO 9001:2015; ISO 14001:2015; ISO
  • 45001 Internal Auditor certification. (NEBOSH certificate is an added advantage)
